IT Setup Guide

Welcome! Follow this step-by-step guide to set up your new Windows computer.

Important Notes

  • Follow the steps one at a time.
  • Complete this guide from start to finish. The order is flexible, but skipping steps may cause issues.

1. Windows Setup

  1. Start your PC and follow the on-screen instructions.
  2. Privacy Settings:
    • Deny all options (e.g., tracking, personalized ads), except Location.
  3. Account Type:
    • Choose Personal Use (not “Work or School”).
    • If you cannot select "Personal Use," reinstall Windows using a USB stick.
  4. Creating Your Account:
    • Try skipping the Microsoft account by using:
      • Email: a@a.com
      • Password: a
      • Click Next after the error message and create a local account.
    • If this doesn’t work, log in with a personal Microsoft account (you can delete it later).
      • On Desktop: see 2. Additional Account Configuration
  5. Local Account Setup:
    • Username: firstname-lastname
    • Complete the setup.

2. Additional Account Configuration

  1. Add a Local Admin Account:
    • Go to Settings > Accounts > Other Users > Add a User.
    • Select “Add a user without a Microsoft account” and create:
      • Username: PuttView Admin
      • Password: ARGolfHH!
      • Security Questions: Use puttview for all answers.
  2. Make Your Account an Admin:
    • Go to Settings > Accounts > Other Users.
    • Click on your account, then select Change Account Type > Administrator.
  3. Log Out and Log In using your local account (firstname-lastname).

3. Update Windows

  1. Install Updates:
    • Go to Settings > Windows Update.
    • Click Install, restart, and repeat until no updates remain.
  2. Optional Updates:
    • Go to Advanced Options > Optional Updates and install everything.

4. Install Graphics Drivers

  1. Check Graphics Card:
    • Open Device Manager > Display Adapters to identify your graphics card.
  2. Install Drivers:

5. Install TeamViewer

Download and install TeamViewer QuickSupport for remote IT support.


6. Enable BitLocker

  1. Search for "BitLocker" in Windows and enable it.
  2. Save the recovery key as a PDF.
  3. Send the PDF to it-support@puttview.com.
    • If BitLocker cannot be enabled, contact IT support.

At This Point, You Should Have:

  • Installed all Windows updates.
  • Installed graphics drivers.
  • Enabled BitLocker.
  • Created required local accounts.

7. Connect to Work Account

  1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Access Work or School > Connect.
    • Log in using your work email: lastname@viewlicity.com (password: WelcomeToViewlicity!).
    • If you encounter login issues, contact it-support@puttview.com.

8. Install Microsoft Services

  1. Outlook:
    • Open Outlook and log in.
    • Pin it to the taskbar.
    • Set the theme to dark (optional).
  2. Teams:
    • Download Teams (Work or School version) and log in.
    • Pin it to the taskbar.
  3. OneDrive:
    • Open OneDrive and log in.
    • Sync desktop, documents, and photos.
    • Sync SharePoint and Teams files as needed.
  4. MS 365 Tools: office.com and download it

9. Additional Programs

  1. Web Browser:
    • Install Firefox or Chrome (if preferred) and set it as your default browser.
  2. KeePass XC:
    • Install and create a new database.
    • Save the database in Documents/KeePass/Personal.kdbx.
    • Use a key file saved in Documents/KeePass/key.key.
  3. Optional Tools:
    • Install Sublime Text or Notepad++ for text editing.

10. For Developers Only

  1. GitHub:
    • Create an account (firstname-lastname).
    • Contact Florian Wendt to get added to necessary projects.
  2. Install Git:
    • Download and install Git for Windows.
  3. Unity:
    • Download Unity Hub and the required Unity version.
  4. SourceTree:
    • Set up SourceTree for version control.

11. Final Steps

  1. Customize Your Laptop:
    • You’re free to set up your laptop how you like.
